Susan M. Sabers

A native of Sioux Falls, Susan is a 1992 graduate of the University of St. Thomas where she earned an undergraduate degree, cum laude, in Political Science. She received her law degree in 1995 from the University of South Dakota, where she was Lead Articles Editor for the South Dakota Law Review and a Sterling Honor Graduate. She was voted outstanding graduating student of the class of 1995 by the faculty. From 1995 to 1997, Susan served as a law clerk to the Honorable C. Arlen Beam of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Upon completion of her clerkship in 1997, Susan joined the Woods law firm and became a partner there in 2002. In 2006, she joined with Bill Fuller to form the new firm of Fuller & Sabers, LLP.

Susan is presently chairman of the South Dakota Board of Bar Examiners, on which she has served since 2002. She was voted Young Lawyer of the Year, 2002-2003, for the State Bar of South Dakota, and served a three-year term as a Bar Commissioner ending in June of 2011. She was an officer of the Second Judicial Circuit Bar Association in 1991-2001, and served as its president for the 2001-2002 term. She previously co-chaired the Tort, Insurance and Trial Law Section of the State of Bar of South Dakota, and served as a member of the Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee from 1998 to 2002. She began serving on the Law School Committee in 2001 and as a Teen Court Judge in 2006, and continues in both of those capacities today. Susan is a Qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice and has been admitted to the National Roster of Commercial Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. She has been appointed a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of South Dakota to assist in the defense of state entities.

In addition to the State Bar of South Dakota, Susan is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association and the Second Judicial Circuit Women in Law (President 2008-2009). She served as Chair of the 2008-2010 Districting Commission for the City of Sioux Falls.
